Job Description
General Manager / VP of Excavation A rare opportunity to take full ownership of the largest division within an established, privately held heavy civil and environmental contractor. The company has been in business for approximately 50 years, generates around $100M in annual revenue, and employs more than 200 people. Its Excavation Division represents over two-thirds of the company's overall volume and operates across heavy civil, environmental, ecological restoration, and complex site work. They are looking for a GM/VP who can lead the division into its next stage of growth while preserving the people-first, family-business culture that has been central to the company's success. You will have the authority and responsibility to run the Excavation Division as a business, working directly with ownership and senior leadership. A few things that make the opportunity stand out: Full ownership of the division's P&L, operations, business development, safety, client relationships, and culture Lead the company's largest business unit, responsible for approximately 70% of overall revenue Direct leadership over the Estimating/Preconstruction Manager, Project Executives, and General Superintendent Established company with approximately $100M in annual revenue and 200+ employees 45-year history with an existing reputation, workforce, client base, and infrastructure behind you Opportunity to shape strategy, strengthen existing markets, and develop new business Direct access to ownership with the ability to have a meaningful impact on the future of the company A genuinely people-first environment that wants to maintain the feel and values of a family business as it grows The Opportunity You will have complete responsibility for the performance and direction of the Excavation Division. This includes setting strategy, developing and maintaining key client relationships, overseeing financial performance, supporting project execution, strengthening the leadership team, and ensuring the division continues to operate safely and profitably. You will also collaborate closely with the leaders of the company's Landscape Construction and Sand & Gravel/Quarry divisions, along with estimating, finance, HR, safety, and other support functions. The goal is not simply to maintain what has already been built. Ownership is looking for someone who can take an established and successful operation and lead its next chapter. The Work The division self-performs complex heavy civil and environmental work, including: Bridges, dams, culverts, and utilities Earthwork and large-scale excavation Dewatering and complex site work Ecological and environmental restoration Environmental remediation Wetland and habitat reclamation Landscape and site restoration Invasive species management Contaminated sites and landfill work RCS-1 and RCS-2 soils Who They're Looking For The ideal candidate combines strong heavy civil construction leadership with meaningful exposure to environmental and ecological work.
