In this pivotal role, you will work side-by-side with our Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations. You will ensure absolute financial integrity, robust compliance, and the effective use of resources across the entire organization. This on-site position is based at our Worcester, MA headquarters facility under the general supervision of the Controller, with a Monday through Friday schedule.
WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DAY TO DAY
Oversee Daily Operations :
Guide general ledger activity, journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and GAAP-compliant allocations.
Lead Financial Closings :
Manage monthly and year-end closing activities, preparing accurate financial statements and discrepancy resolutions.
Manage Grant Compliance :
Monitor federal, state, and private grant expenditures for adherence to Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).
Drive Budget Analysis :
Conduct budget-to-actual variances, expenditure trend analysis, forecasting, and risk assessments.
Strengthen Internal Controls :
Maintain robust accounting policies, secure segregation of duties, and resolve control weaknesses.
Coordinate Annual Audits :
Prepare schedules and documentation for financial statements, Single Audits, and regulatory reviews.
Supervise Cash Flow :
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, and authorized bank reconciliations.
Optimize Financial Systems :
Identify automation opportunities to improve data integrity, reporting tools, and workflow efficiency.
Lead Accounting Staff :
Supervise, coach, and train assigned personnel while promoting accountability and cross-training.
Collaborate Across Departments :
Partner with HR, Development, and Operations to communicate financial guidance clearly.
Implement Process Improvements :
Apply Root Cause Analysis to eliminate recurring errors and build sustainable system improvements.
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required. Master's degree or CPA preferred. Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting or finance experience. Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience is preferred. Nonprofit accounting and grant accounting experience strongly preferred. Experience with financial systems, audits, internal controls, and financial reporting required. Must be able to successfully pass a CORI/Background records check. Compliance with Veterans Inc.
