The vice president of finance and operations is a newly created leadership position overseeing the Forest Society of Maine's financial management and operations. Reporting to the president and CEO and serving on the leadership team, the VPFO provides strategic leadership in financial stewardship, risk management, legal compliance, human resources, facilities, and operational needs. The VPFO serves as a trusted strategic partner, leading with integrity and transparency while balancing operational detail with long-term financial vision to strengthen FSM's resilience and enduring conservation impact. The VPFO ensures financial practices meet standards for transparency, accountability, and sustainability and comply with GAAP, nonprofit best practices, and Land Trust Alliance Standards and Practices. The VPFO works closely with the Board, Finance Committee, Investment Subcommittee, and fundraising team, but does not fundraise. The position supervises a part-time Finance Associate and manages vendors for payroll, audit, investments, benefits, IT, insurance, and treasury.
