SUMMARY Preferred Capital Management provides fully outsourced turnkey management of sow facilities in MN, IA, MO and SD. Our clients hire us to manage the sow herds necessary to produce the weaned pigs they need for their pig finishing operations. We manage over 20 entities with various ownership. In addition to the on-site labor and veterinary services, we also handle all the accounting for each entity. Our accounting staff in our Fairmont office manages the bank accounts, A/R and invoicing, A/P and bill payments, and internal monthly financials. The controller role is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions and the following responsibilities:

Controller Job Responsibilities:

• Oversees accounting operations, month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, internal controls, and compliance across multiple related entities.
• Ensures month-end and year-end reporting and balance sheet reconciliations are completed accurately and timely and that financial statements are consistent and compliant with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
• Leads budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, financial analysis, and reporting to support leadership decisions.
• Builds and improves financial processes, reporting, controls, and systems to support continued growth.
• Leads improvements to ERP systems, financial software, integrations, automation, and workflows.
• Oversees banking, cash management, payment controls, and other key financial relationships.
• Coordinates with external CPAs on tax preparation, tax planning, audits, and financial reporting requirements.
• Works with legal counsel and insurance partners to ensure appropriate financial documentation, coverage, and risk protection are in place.
• Builds, trains, and develops the accounting team, including multiple direct reports, with responsibility for clear roles, cross-training, accountability, performance, and continued growth.
• Partners with leadership on strategic initiatives, organizational needs, risk, and major business decisions.
• Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, visibility, consistency, and overall financial performance.

Controller Qualifications /

Skills:

• Strong accounting and financial management knowledge
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
• Budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
• Advanced ERP and financial systems knowledge
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, data analysis, reporting, and working with large data sets
• Process improvement, automation, and systems integration
• Interest in emerging technology and a willingness to explore tools that can improve financial processes, reporting, and efficiency
• Strong business judgment and problem-solving
• Ability to communicate financial information effectively to leadership and ownership
• Growth-oriented mindset with the ability to build and improve financial structure as the organization evolves

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• Minimum 7-10 years' progressive accounting and finance experience
• Senior-level experience with multi-entity accounting and financial reporting
• Demonstrated experience leading, training, and developing an accounting or finance team with multiple direct reports
• Significant experience with ERP and financial software systems
• Demonstrated experience improving financial processes, systems, controls, or reporting
• Previous Controller, Director of Finance, or similar senior financial leadership experience preferred
• Experience working within a management company structure overseeing multiple related entities preferred
• Experience implementing or integrating financial systems preferred

ACCOUNTABILITY

• Controller is accountable to PCM and FVC CEO - Chase Stahl
• Controller is responsible to the vet liaison for each entity
