POSITION PURPOSE
The Vice President of Lending is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic direction of the organization's lending department. This position oversees consumer, mortgage, and indirect lending, ensuring the loan portfolio grows in alignment with organizational goals while maintaining sound credit quality and regulatory compliance. The VP of Lending develops lending strategies, manages credit and operational risk, and provides leadership and support to lending teams to achieve organizational objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Develop and implement lending strategies that support the organization's growth and profitability objectives. Ensure sound underwriting and credit decision practices. Ensure compliance with all lending regulations, policies, and internal controls. Oversee the administration and performance of consumer, mortgage, and indirect lending programs. Review, approve, or decline loans within assigned authority limits. Recommend policy and procedural changes to improve efficiency and mitigate risk. Work with collections staff and management to establish effective collection practices and performance standards. Serve as the business owner of the Loan Origination System (LOS), ensuring the system supports organizational objectives and lending strategies. Partner with the Account Opening System (AOS) business owner to ensure a seamless member experience between account opening and loan origination processes. Participate in community development initiatives that align with organizational goals. Oversee third-party lending relationships and vendor partnerships. Provide regular updates on lending performance, risk exposure, collections activities, and department initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience Required:
Minimum of 5 years of leadership or management experience in a financial institution. Minimum of 7 years of lending experience.
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree required but Equivalent experience in lending, banking, credit administration, or financial institution leadership may be substituted for formal education.
Skills/Abilities:
Thorough understanding of lending regulations and compliance requirements. Excellent leadership, coaching, and team building skills. Experience with loan origination systems (LOS), lending platforms, and related financial technologies. Strong understanding of loan underwriting, credit analysis, loan structuring, and portfolio management. Knowledge of collection strategies, delinquency management, loss mitigation, repossession processes, and post-charge-off recovery practices. Ability to communicate complex lending, risk, and operational information to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times. May need to stand or sit for long periods of time.
