Asheville, NC We are seeking an experienced Automotive Dealership Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of a successful Mazda/CDJR dealership in Asheville, North Carolina. Position Summary The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial functions of the dealership, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, managing treasury operations, and leading the accounting and administrative teams. This individual will serve as a trusted business partner to the Dealer Principal and General Manager by providing financial insights, operational support, and strategic guidance. Key Responsibilities Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with company and manufacturer reporting requirements. Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency. Oversee treasury functions, including cash management, ACH approvals, bank reconciliations, and floorplan financing. Manage payroll administration and assist with human resources functions. Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. Supervise all dealership accounting operations, including: Accounts Payable Accounts Receivable Contracts and Deals Processing Licensing and Titling Vehicle Inventory Accounting General Ledger Reconciliations Coordinate monthly account reconciliations and physical inventory reconciliations. Prepare daily, weekly, and month-end financial reports. Monitor expenses and recommend cost-control initiatives. Partner with department managers to review performance and identify opportunities for improvement. Coordinate annual financial reviews and external audits. Develop and maintain effective accounting processes and internal controls. Safeguard dealership assets and ensure compliance with company policies. Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise accounting and administrative staff. Manage relationships with banks, auditors, manufacturers, and other financial partners. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum of five years of automotive dealership accounting experience ; prior Controller or Office Manager experience preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of dealership accounting operations, including deals processing, titling, inventory accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial statement preparation. Strong understanding of GAAP and internal accounting controls. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered. Experience with Dealertrack DMS preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Office applications. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to lead, develop, and motivate high-performing teams. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-financial leaders. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while supporting dealership leadership. Professional demeanor, strong work ethic, and exceptional attention to detail.
