About the Role We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Controller to lead our day-to-day accounting operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing technical accounting responsibilities with process improvement and collaboration across the business. Working closely with the President and our fractional CFO, you'll help ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong accounting practices, and support informed business decisions. As we continue to grow, you'll have the opportunity to strengthen our accounting processes while helping build the future of our finance function. This position supports a planned transition within the accounting department. Depending on business needs and staffing levels, the Controller may initially perform certain day-to-day accounting functions, including accounting transaction processing and data entry, until additional accounting support is added. We're looking for someone who enjoys being part of the team, takes pride in producing accurate work, and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves when needed. What You'll Do Lead the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets. Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and supporting reports. Manage the month-end and year-end close process. Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations. Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax professionals. Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Monitor project accounting, job costing, and work-in-progress reporting. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting in partnership with the President and fractional CFO. Support improvements to accounting systems, reporting, and processes. Supervise and develop accounting staff. Perform accounting transaction processing and data entry as needed. What You'll Bring Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience. CPA designation is preferred. Experience in engineering, manufacturing, construction, or another project-based business is a plus. Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls. Experience with accounting or ERP software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. A hands-on approach and willingness to jump in where needed. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
