Job Type:
Full-Time
ABOUT THE ROLE EZ
Open Garage Door is a growing home services company serving West Fargo, ND and Fergus Falls, MN. As we scale, we're building out professional financial infrastructure to support the business — and we're looking for a Controller to own it. This is a rare opportunity to take full ownership of the financial function of an established, growing company, with a direct line to the owner and real influence over how the business is run. You'll report directly to the owner, with QuickBooks, Housecall Pro, and our inventory system already in place as the operating backbone, this isn't a start-from-scratch cleanup job. Onboarding starts by learning the day-to-day numbers directly from our current finance lead: cost tracking, expense management, and the operational side of the books. From there, you'll grow into higher-level work currently handled by our outside CPA firm, tax coordination, deeper financial reporting, and strategic analysis — as you build out a full controller function that doesn't fully exist here yet.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Full ownership of day-to-day accounting: AP/AR, reconciliations, payroll support, and month-end close across both locations Job costing accuracy ensuring labor, materials, and overhead are tracked correctly against every job Growing into work currently handled by our outside CPA firm, including tax coordination and deeper financial analysis, as you take on more of that scope over time Cash flow forecasting and reporting the owner can act on, not just historical numbers Financial reporting and dashboards by location and by service line Inventory-related financial tracking in coordination with our inventory system Building out formal financial processes and controls where none currently exist Partnering with the owner to design KPIs and performance metrics for employees across the company. We don't have a formal framework yet, and you'll help build it Identifying financial risks or inefficiencies before they become problems As the team grows, potential oversight of bookkeeping or AP/AR support staff
WHAT YOU BRING
5+ years of progressive accounting experience: Controller, Senior Accountant, or equivalent Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks (required) Experience with Housecall Pro or similar field service software is a plus (trainable) Experience in trades, field service, home services, or a similarly job-costed industry strongly preferred Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA a plus but not required Comfortable being hands-on with the numbers while also advising the owner on strategy and decisions Experience building or contributing to KPI, incentive, or performance metric programs is a plus High attention to detail and discretion with sensitive financial and payroll information
WHAT WE OFFER
Competitive salary: $100,000-$120,000 based on experience Direct access to ownership and a real say in business decisions A stable, established company with room to grow the role over time Paid time off Retirement Match 100% Health, Dental and Vision paid
Pay:
$100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
Benefits:
401(k) 401(k) matching Dental insurance Health insurance Paid time off Vision insurance
Work Location:
