Job Description:
Trinity Solar is seeking an experienced hands-on proactive Controller to manage all aspects of our Accounting Department located at the company's headquarters in Wall Township, NJ. The Controller is responsible for directing and managing the Company's accounting and financial reporting functions while ensuring the integrity of financial information, compliance with applicable accounting standards, and the effectiveness of internal controls. This position exercises significant independent judgment and discretion in developing financial policies, interpreting accounting guidance, evaluating financial risks, and recommending strategies that support organizational objectives. The Controller serves as a key financial leader, partnering with executive management to provide financial analysis, operational recommendations, budgeting oversight, cash flow management, and strategic decision-making. This role is responsible for the overall leadership of the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of financial processes and controls.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directs the daily operations of the Accounting Department. Provides leadership, coaching, performance management, and professional development for accounting staff. Establishes departmental priorities, assigns work, evaluates performance, and recommends hiring, promotions, disciplinary action, and termination decisions. Develops departmental goals, policies, and procedures to improve operational effectiveness and financial accuracy. Oversees the integrity of accounting systems, financial controls, and reporting processes. Ensures appropriate staffing and resource allocation to meet business objectives.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial information and safeguard company assets. Oversee cash flow management, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions. Assist in maintaining, monitoring, and tracking of annual budgets/forecasts for the company's operations. Perform regular analysis of financial data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Prepare and present regular financial reports to the executive management team. Develop and implement strategies to improve profitability, reduce costs, and increase revenue. Manage the company's relationships with financial institutions, auditors, and other stakeholders. Assist external CPA with preparation of annual tax returns for multiple companies and their owners. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal government regulations and tax reporting. Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team. Other projects and tasks as assigned by the CFO.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial analysis and reporting. Experience with accounting and general ledger software programs. Experience with job costing software programs as well as online customer billing portals. Expert proficiency using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Experience with multi-state income, sales, and use tax reporting. Able to communicate in a clear and professional manner (written and verbal). Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to assist wherever needed. Able to work independently as well as part of a diverse team. Must be organized and accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment. Able to balance a variety of tasks simultaneously and transition from task to task quickly.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting required. CPA or CMA certification (preferred). 7+ years of experience in finance or accounting, with at least 3 years in a Controller role with a company in the services industry (e.g. construction, HVAC, solar installation, etc.).
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
