CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA) Search has been exclusively retained by a well-established and highly respected construction firm to identify an onsite Controller to join its leadership team. Our client is a successful construction organization with nearly four decades of experience delivering a diverse portfolio of commercial and residential projects throughout the region. Recognized for its commitment to quality, integrity, and craftsmanship, the company has earned a strong reputation for operational excellence, long-term client relationships, and consistent growth. Through a collaborative and hands-on culture, the organization remains focused on delivering exceptional results while staying true to the core values that have driven its success. The Controller will partner closely with project managers, operations leadership, and executive management to strengthen financial visibility across job costs, work-in-progress (WIP), and overall project profitability. This individual will be a hands-on leader who is comfortable working within Sage 300, actively managing day-to-day accounting operations, and driving process improvements that support continued growth and scalability.
What You'll Do:
Lead the monthly financial close and reporting process across multiple entities Manage, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals Oversee and optimize the use of Sage 300, including job costing, WIP, and prevailing wage payroll Partner with project managers and operations leaders to improve estimate-to-actual tracking and real-time job cost visibility Prepare and review work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and ensure accurate revenue recognition Improve cash management, forecasting, and internal financial controls Support the transition to a more paperless and automated accounting environment Coordinate and support audited financial statements and external audits Implement improved cost controls and procurement processes within a cost-plus model Serve as a trusted financial advisor during a period of leadership transition and growth
What You'll Need:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Significant experience in construction accounting, preferably within a subcontractor environment Prior experience as a Controller or in a senior accounting leadership role Strong working knowledge of Sage 300 or similar ERP Construction job costing experience strongly preferred Experience with multi-entity accounting and intercompany transactions Comfort operating in both strategic and hands-on capacities Ability to collaborate effectively with project managers and operational leaders Experience working in audited financial environments
