This is a full-time, permanent opportunity for an accomplished accounting and finance professional who can combine hands-on financial management with strategic leadership. The Controller will oversee the organization's accounting and financial operations across multiple locations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, consistent processes, and effective cash and working capital management. This individual will serve as a key financial partner to executive and operational leadership, providing the insight, structure, and financial discipline necessary to support continued growth. Key Responsibilities Financial & Accounting Leadership Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management . Provide leadership and oversight to the accounting function and establish clear expectations and accountability. Ensure consistent accounting policies, procedures, and financial controls across multiple locations. Partner with executive and operational leaders to identify and resolve financial and business challenges. Month-End Close & Financial Reporting Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes , ensuring timely and accurate completion. Maintain balance sheet reconciliations, fixed asset records, lease schedules, and supporting documentation. Prepare and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports. Analyze P&L performance, trends, budgets, and variances and provide meaningful financial insight to leadership. Maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready financial records. Cash Flow & Working Capital Develop and maintain weekly cash flow forecasts and liquidity planning. Oversee accounts receivable aging, collections, and billing cycles. Identify opportunities to strengthen cash conversion and improve overall working capital performance. Provide leadership with visibility into cash requirements, risks, and financial trends. Operational Finance & Job Costing Oversee accurate work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and job cost tracking . Partner with operations to evaluate project performance, margins, and profitability. Identify job-cost variances and provide actionable financial insight to operational leaders. Provide financial feedback that supports improved estimating, pricing, and project performance. Compliance & Audit Coordinate tax, retirement plan, insurance, and other regulatory and compliance requirements. Lead and support internal and external audits, including financial and workers' compensation audits. Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance deadlines are consistently met. Oversee financial and documentation requirements associated with applicable workforce programs and external partners. Systems & Process Improvement Oversee the effective use and integrity of Sage and related financial systems . Identify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting and reporting processes. Standardize financial processes across locations to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability. Troubleshoot system and reporting challenges and implement sustainable solutions. What We Are Looking For Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. 7+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience. CPA or MBA preferred. Strong experience leading month-end close, financial reporting, cash management, budgeting, and forecasting . Demonstrated experience supporting a multi-location or complex operating environment . Strong knowledge of job costing and WIP accounting ; experience within landscaping, construction, contracting, or another project-based/service organization is highly desirable. Proven ability to establish and standardize accounting processes, internal controls, and financial procedures. Experience leading, developing, and holding accounting teams accountable. Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate financial information into meaningful business recommendations. Experience with Sage or similar accounting/ERP systems preferred. Ability to work collaboratively with executive, operational, and cross-functional leadership.
