We are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to join a growing government contracting client in a contract capacity with potential for a permanent role on the fully remote basis. This position is well suited for a hands-on accounting leader with government contracting experience who can strengthen core accounting operations, support compliance efforts, and improve the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to guide month-end close activities in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:

Lead the monthly close process, ensuring deadlines are met and financial results are complete, accurate, and well supported. Oversee general ledger activity and review journal entries, account analyses, and supporting documentation for consistency and compliance. Prepare and review internal and external financial reports, including statements and schedules needed for management and audit use. Manage balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies by partnering with accounting staff and operational stakeholders. Support financial statement audits by organizing schedules, responding to auditor requests, and maintaining thorough documentation. Help maintain accounting practices that align with government contracting requirements, including DCAA-related standards and expectations. Partner with leadership to monitor accounting controls, identify process gaps, and recommend practical improvements to reporting workflows. Utilize Deltek Costpoint to manage accounting data, review transactions, and support reliable financial operations. Demonstrated experience in an Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller role with responsibility for core accounting operations. Prior background in government contracting environments with working knowledge of DCAA compliance expectations. Strong command of month-end close procedures, general ledger management, and balance sheet reconciliation. Experience preparing financial reports and supporting financial statement audit activities. Proficiency with Deltek Costpoint and comfort working within ERP-driven accounting processes. Solid understanding of accounting controls, documentation standards, and reporting accuracy requirements. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
