Job Description:
Assistant Controller Long Island, NY | Hybrid Schedule We are partnering with a publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT) to identify an Assistant Controller who will play a key leadership role within the corporate accounting and financial reporting function. This position offers significant visibility to senior leadership and the opportunity to help drive the continued growth of a well-capitalized, acquisitive real estate platform. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in public accounting and public company reporting, along with the desire to take on increasing responsibility within a dynamic and collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and review of SEC filings, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, and related disclosures
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Assist with technical accounting research and implementation of new accounting standards
  • Coordinate with external auditors and other third-party advisors
  • Oversee general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and internal controls
  • Partner with finance, operations, tax, and executive leadership on various strategic initiatives
  • Support acquisition accounting and integration activities as the company continues to grow
  • Mentor and develop members of the accounting team Qualifications
  • CPA required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Big Four or large public accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Public company reporting experience required
  • Real estate, REIT, or related industry experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting systems
