Job Description

Brickell Brands is a fast-growing, innovative e-commerce company based in South Portland, Maine. We develop, manufacture, and sell a portfolio of premium personal care brands, including Brickell Men's Products and Eight Saints Skincare. Our products are sold through our direct-to-consumer websites and Amazon across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Europe, and Australia. With a team of approximately 60 employees operating from our South Portland production facility, we offer the unique opportunity to join a local company with a global footprint. This role is ideal for someone looking to make a meaningful impact in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment. We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and adaptable Assistant Controller to strengthen our financial operations while providing cross-functional support across the organization. This role is ideal for a proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can effectively balance accounting, payroll, and administrative responsibilities. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of financial processes, while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across systems and workflows. Key Responsibilities General Accounting (60%) Support the month-end close process, ensuring timely, accurate, and complete financial reporting Perform monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts and investigate variances Maintain the integrity of financial data in compliance with GAAP standards Manage inventory reconciliations, adjustments, and related reporting Provide support and troubleshooting for internal database and ERP systems, including QuickBooks, Domo, and Odoo Assist with cash management Partner with external providers to file international and US Sales Tax filings accurately and on time in addition to US federal and state tax filings and sales tax compliance Partner with external tax providers in various countries to file Sales Tax filings accurately and on time Coordinate with external tax accountants on annual state and federal tax returns Drive improvements in accounting workflows and optimize use of financial systems, including ERP platforms Prepare ad hoc financial analyses, reports, and models to support strategic decision-making Ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded and posted in a timely manner Payroll and Benefits Administration (15%) Process and reconcile bi-weekly payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and company policies Maintain payroll records and respond to employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner Partner with HR to ensure accurate processing of employee changes impacting payroll (e.g., new hires, terminations, benefits changes) Assist with annual benefits analysis and compliance of company's 401k plan Ensure timely and accurate payroll tax filings and related compliance requirements General Administrative & IT Support Backup (25%) International trademark filing Registering the business in different tax jurisdictions Filing customs paperwork for international imports and exports Provide backup support for basic IT functions, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues Assist with user onboarding, system access, and auditing of access Coordinate with external IT vendors to resolve issues and maintain system performance Support cross-functional initiatives and perform additional duties as needed
Role Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, data analysis) Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment Basic understanding of IT systems and troubleshooting is a plus 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing and/or e-commerce environment Experience processing payroll using ADP Proficiency with accounting and reporting systems (QuickBooks, Domo, Odoo, or similar ERP platforms) Experience using ADP a plus. Work Environment & Physical Requirements This role requires working at a computer for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day) Ability to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods, with or without reasonable accommodation
