We are partnering with a well-established, mission-driven nonprofit organization in the Greater Hartford area seeking an Accounting Manager / Controller to join its finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced nonprofit accounting professional who enjoys being hands-on while also serving as a strategic partner to senior leadership. This individual will report directly to the CFO and have broad ownership across accounting, financial reporting, audit, budgeting, investment accounting, and financial operations. . Key Responsibilities + Manage day-to-day accounting and financial operations, including the general ledger, month-end/year-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, accounts payable oversight, and internal controls. + Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting for leadership and the Board. + Lead annual audit preparation and serve as a key liaison with external auditors. + Support tax compliance and annual nonprofit tax filings. + Partner closely with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, financial analysis, and long-term planning. + Prepare budget-to-actual reporting and analyze variances in partnership with internal teams. + Support grant and contract payment processing and related accounting. + Oversee investment accounting and reconciliations while coordinating with external investment advisors, custodians, and banking partners. + Assist with payroll and benefits oversight and other finance/operations-related activities as needed. + Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. + Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and overall efficiency. + Serve as an approachable finance partner across the organization and assist the CFO with special projects and strategic initiatives.
