Controller Part-Time 25 Hours per Week
Job Description
Job Summary A well-established, self-managed residential community association in eastern North Carolina is seeking an experienced Controller to provide leadership and oversight of the organization's financial operations. This is a hands-on position for an experienced financial professional who enjoys working in a smaller organization where they can have a meaningful impact. The Controller will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the organization's financial systems, preparing timely and accurate financial reports, overseeing accounting processes, supporting annual budgeting and long-range financial planning, and providing financial guidance to management and the Board of Directors. The position is expected to average approximately 25 hours per week .
Key Responsibilities The Controller will:
Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and cash management. Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and management reports. Provide financial analysis and clearly communicate financial results to the General Manager and Board of Directors. Lead the annual budgeting process and monitor actual financial performance against budget. Maintain appropriate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Monitor operating and reserve accounts and assist with long-term financial and capital planning. Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, financial institutions, insurance professionals, and other outside advisors as appropriate. Support preparation for annual audits/reviews and tax filings. Oversee payroll-related financial processes and reporting. Ensure compliance with applicable financial, tax, regulatory, and organizational requirements. Maintain accurate financial records and appropriate documentation. Identify opportunities to strengthen financial processes, controls, reporting, and operational efficiency. Provide financial insight and recommendations to support sound organizational decision-making. Qualifications The successful candidate must have : Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. 3-5 years professional accounting and financial management experience. Demonstrated experience preparing and interpreting financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses. Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and internal financial controls. Experience working independently and taking ownership of an organization's financial function. Strong technology skills and experience with accounting and financial management systems. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to individuals without an accounting background. High standards of integrity, confidentiality, accuracy, and professional judgment. CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certification is preferred but not required. Experience with a homeowner's/community association, nonprofit organization, property management organization, or other organization with operating and reserve funds is desirable but not required. However, Jonas software knowledge a plus. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate combines strong accounting expertise with a practical, collaborative approach. This individual will be comfortable handling detailed accounting responsibilities while also serving as a trusted financial resource to organizational leadership. The successful candidate will be proactive, highly organized, comfortable working in a small-team environment, and able to identify issues and recommend solutions rather than simply report financial information.
