The United Congregational Church of Milton (UCC Milton) is seeking a detail-oriented, part-time Director of Finance to support the church's day-to-day financial operations. This position can be performed largely remotely, however there will be times each month when on-site coordination with church staff, church treasurer, and the Board of Finance and Property will be required. We are looking for a candidate with significant bookkeeping and/or accounting experience who is comfortable working independently, managing deadlines, and using cloud-based financial and payroll systems such as Quick Books, Bill.com and ADP. The role's responsibilities fall into five main categories: 1) Accounts payable and vendor management: The Director of Finance will be responsible for entering invoices, employee expense reimbursements, and debit card transactions into BILL; reconciling employee expense receipts; setting up and maintaining vendor records and W-9s; following up with vendors on payment questions and missing documentation; and preparing monthly reports on outstanding invoices. 2)
Payroll Administration:
The Director of Finance will be responsible for preparing payroll detail timesheets for entry into ADP, monitoring cash balances and coordinating transfers as needed, transmitting payroll information to the payroll provider, downloading and saving payroll reports, managing employee access and onboarding/termination in ADP, resolving issues with expired or adjusted paychecks, and supporting year-end payroll compliance tasks such as reviewing and distributing W-2s and 1099s and preparing 1099s in Tax1099. 3)
Church Accounting:
The Director of Finance will be responsible for reconciling bank accounts, making appropriate journal entries, and preparing monthly reports to be distributed to the Board of Finance and Property as well as the Annual Report. The Director of Finance will also work closely with the pastor, treasurer, and Board of Finance and Property in preparing the annual budget. 4)
Donor Giving Records :
The Director of Finance will be responsible for working with our office administrator to input that data into our church database and prepare quarterly giving statements and the year-end giving statement. 5)
Member and Staff Support:
The Director of Finance will be responsible for regularly checking email and responding to financial related questions from other staff or church members. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience with bookkeeping and financial recordkeeping required, nonprofit or church experience preferred.
- Familiarity with online financial systems such as Bill.com, QuickBooks, and ADP.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general accounting software.
Termination:
The Director of Finance is an at-will employee of the church and reports to the Senior Minister. Proper notice is 2 weeks written notice from either party. This period may be adjusted by mutual agreement. The church may substitute compensation for notice.
