Qualifications:

Experience:
CPA designation preferred. Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in Accounting/Business Administration, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) and have a minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience with nonprofit organizations. Experience must include accrual-basis accounting, a strong understanding of nonprofit fund accounting principles and the management of restricted, unrestricted, and grant-funded resources, tracking and reporting multiple funds using Excel, budgeting, audit preparation and support, and the use of automated accounting systems. A thorough knowledge of accounting theory and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required. 2.
Language Skills:
Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret commontechnical material, financial reports and legal documents; be able to respond to inquiries from donors, regulatory agencies or members of the business community; be able to effectively present information to the Executive Director, Department Heads, employees and the Board of Trustees. 3.
Mathematical Skills:
Must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. 4.
Reasoning Ability:
Must be able to identify, define and solve problems. 5.
Computer Skills:
Must be proficient in word processing software, e-mail, internet browsers and specific accounting software programs including QuickBooks and Excel. 6.
Legal Requirements:
Must be familiar with and comply with all federal, state and local laws and regulations that govern the operations of the Department. II.

Full-time; Exempt. Not eligible for a permanent remote work schedule. III.
Accountability:
Reports to Executive Director. IV.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To institute, enforce and operate a system of accounting and external financial reporting. 2. Demonstrate expertise in nonprofit fund accounting and GAAP-compliant financial reporting, including the classification and reporting of net assets, management of donor-restricted funds, grant compliance, and preparation of financial statements in accordance with Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) guidelines for not-for-profit organizations. 3. To furnish and explain regular monthly and special reports to the Executive Director, Board of Trustees and others within the organization. 4. To track on a scheduled basis in Excel all endowment and restricted funds and endowment spending. 5. To prepare, with input from Department Heads, investment managers, and the Executive Director an annual budget for approval by the Board of Trustees. 4. To track and monitor the enforcement of the budget following its approval. 5. Working with ADP, to manage payroll and the tracking of employee work hours and leave time and to prepare and submit required tax returns, regular and special reports to government agencies, and quarterly and annual payroll tax reports, W-2's and 1099's. 6. To review, audit and code revenue and invoices including classes and subclasses and ensure timely payment as funds are available. 7. To make regular bank deposits, monitor cash flow and reconcile all bank and investment accounts monthly. 8. To orient new employees and maintain benefit enrollments. 9. To maintain monthly journal entries to general ledger accounts to reflect proper revenue and expense. 10. To prepare, at the end of each month, a balance sheet, statement of revenue and expenses and other necessary statements. 11. To prepare a special financial report for the Board that is extrapolated from the Quickbooks reports. 12. To prepare year-end worksheets to assist the independent auditors in the annual audit of financial records. 13. To serve as staff liaison to the Finance and Investment Committees. 14. To assist with preparation of Museum Store retail accounting. 15. To work as a team member with other staff. 16. To work well with the Board Treasurer and members of the Finance and Investment Committees. 17. To monitor the master calendar on a daily basis. 18. Evaluating Job Performance:
1. The accuracy with which financial records and reports are kept and deadlines are met. 2. The ease and speed with which the independent audit is performed. 3. The degree to which the Director of Finance is able to answer questions dealing with reports rendered to the Executive Director, Board of Trustees and others. 4. The quality of recommendations to the Executive Director which alerts him or her to problem areas or trends that may adversely affect the organization; which reveal budget variances and suggestions for corrections; and which improve the system of internal control and management information. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to operate a calculator and computer. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop and kneel. VII.
