As a member of the Superintendents Executive Cabinet, the Director oversees and directs all aspects of the Districts Business Office which include but are not limited to Payroll, Benefits, Purchasing, Grant Procurement, State Reporting, and the School Lunch Program. The Director works as a member of the Central Office Team and communicates with school building leaders and other Central Office team members on issues related to the district and school budgets.
Experience working in a School District Business Office in a supervisory capacity is preferred.
REPORTS TOThe Superintendent
Prepares financial statements, expenditure reports, cost reports to reflect the financial condition of the district. Prepares year end state reports. Distributes reports to appropriate persons.
Plays a key role in the preparation of the school budget. Maintains statistical accounts. Calculates and collates information on various budget categories; inputs data into the computer system and prepares budget reports in various categories.
Supervises all accounting operations including, payroll, requisitions and purchase orders, accounts payable, fringe benefits, and file records.
Oversees the school department's benefits plans, including the various health and insurance plans.
Acts as the districts purchasing agent and administers the Purchasing Policy as set forth by the school committee.
Attendance at School Committee Meetings is required as well as providing members with regular financial reports.
Maintains the school departments activity account including trust, fiduciary, and food services.
Prepares detailed monthly financial statements; analyzes and oversees all district expenditures and reports regularly to the Superintendent.
Prepares all financial reports required of the school district and prepares all checks and control sheets, list of bills and itemized justification of the same utilizing the computer.
Oversees school accounts and maintains communication with principals regarding these.
Maintains a complete and systematic set of records of all financial transactions of the school district through a computer terminal system, including operating funds, grants, and non-appropriated funds.
Records details of school financial transactions in appropriate journals and subsidiary ledgers from such resources as requisitions, payroll records, etc. Prepares summaries and balance entries that are recorded in individual journals and ledgers and transfers data to general ledger.
Accounts for all school department revenues and all revenues received by the municipality on behalf of the school district.
Reconciles with the town finance director all revenue and expenditures on a monthly basis.
Advises the Superintendent on all financial matters.
Adheres to all Smithfield School Department policies, state and federal laws and regulations.
Performs all other duties as directed by the Superintendent of Schools.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree in Business Administration, or related field, with strong fiscal management and accounting skills. A Master's Degree in Business Administration is preferred. Strong working knowledge and experience working with business computer software, Excel spreadsheets, iVisions, school-based, accounts and Frontline preferred.Experience working in a School District Business Office in a supervisory capacity is preferred.
