Job Description:
Careers with our Clients through Forvis Mazars US Executive Search Controller / Director of Finance (in office in Spartanburg, SC) We have partnered with a specialized metal fabrication and related construction and equipment company based in Spartanburg SC. This entrepreneur-run company performs project-based construction work and custom manufacturing. We are seeking a hands-on finance leader to work directly with ownership and hold full responsibility for the finance and accounting function, directly supervising a small team. This is a player-coach role suited to someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves while building better processes, visibility and financial discipline across the business. A strong background in project/job costing and contract accounting with experience managing inventory, fixed assets and working capital in a construction, manufacturing / fabrication or equipment-intensive environment is highly preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Execute oversight for daily accounting operations, including processing weekly payroll Perform month-end close, financial reporting and internal controls Maintain accurate job costing and project accounting across systems integration and custom manufacturing jobs Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and practical operational KPIs Oversee inventory, fixed assets, rental fleet accounting and related processes Ensure proper revenue recognition for multi-phase projects and rental contracts, providing clear financial visibility and margin analysis by business line Partner with operations on pricing, bid reviews, cost control and metal shop performance Lead cash flow forecasting, working capital management and banking relationships and maintain external relationships with external CPA firm Directly manage a small team, setting clear expectations, developing the team
REQUIREMENTS
7+ years of progressive accounting and finance team leadership experience Strong project-based or job costing background Solid technical accounting skills and experience owning the full close process Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance business unit leaders Comfortable working in a hands-on, entrepreneurial environment
