Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented, dependable Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting operations for SMCo Thrift and manage the relationship with a third-party bookkeeping company supporting our partners. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and timely close processes. This position is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who thrives in a growing organization, enjoys managing multiple entities, and partners closely with operational leaders to keep finances clean, timely, and decision-ready. Duties S erve as the primary owner of SMCo Thrift internal accounting operations (AP/AR, reconciliations, and transaction accuracy) while overseeing third-party bookkeeping functions for partner organizations—including transaction processing, reconciliations, and month-end close—to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with internal financial reporting standards Lead the development and ongoing management of annual budgets, including department and project-level budget planning Develop and maintain financial forecasts based on active engagements, contract pipelines, and staffing needs Monitor organizational cash flow and produce short- and long-term cash flow projections to support financial stability and growth Provide financial insights, reporting, and budget interpretation to Field Directors to support partner-level decision-making Track and analyze financial performance against budgets and contracts, identifying trends, variances, and potential risks Own and continuously improve financial systems, reporting tools, and documented financial processes to support scalability and accuracy Deliver timely and accurate financial reporting and insights to leadership to inform strategic planning and organizational growth decisions Provide guidance and oversight to partner-level finance staff, ensuring consistent accounting practices, timely reporting, and adherence to financial controls and standards Skills 3+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with demonstrated responsibility for financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance Proficiency with Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace Experience in owning the month-end close Proficiency with accounting software, QuickBooks Online Strong Excel / Google Sheets skills Close attention to detail and accuracy Ability to manage financials for multiple entities or locations Strong verbal and written communication with familiarity in communicating with executive leadership or boards of directors Problem-solving and decision-making ability
Valid Driver's License Pay:
$76,287.27 - $91,872.85 per year
