full-time About the Company Pennington Concrete & Utilities is seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to lead its accounting function. About the Role This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, payroll and tax compliance, job costing, and the development of accounting staff. This position is required to work onsite in Euless, Texas. The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction accounting and understands the unique financial processes of a construction environment, including WIP reporting, job costing, retention, and over/under billings. Previous construction industry experience is required, and experience with Sage 100 Contractor is preferred. Responsibilities Lead and oversee daily accounting operations and accounting staff Manage the month-end close process and review financial statements, reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules Prepare and review WIP schedules, job costing, cost allocations, and cost reclasses Prepare monthly financial reporting and dashboards for leadership Oversee AP, AR, payroll, intercompany activity, bank reconciliations, and recurring entries Review AR aging and retention balances and monitor outstanding reconciliation items Oversee sales tax, payroll tax, workers' compensation, and other compliance reporting Review quarterly and annual payroll filings, W-2s, 1099s, and other required filings Maintain and review debt schedules, leases, GL accounts, vendors, and related accounting records Coordinate with the CPA on quarterly reviews and overbilling/underbilling reporting Partner with operations and management to resolve accounting issues and provide reliable financial information Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls Support, and develop accounting team members Support Sage accounting processes, including GL accounts, vendors, cost codes, and new division setup Qualifications Construction industry accounting experience required Previous experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar accounting leadership role Strong knowledge of construction accounting, including WIP reporting, job costing, retention, and over/under billings Strong understanding of month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, payroll, AP/AR, and compliance Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to create and maintain spreadsheets, analyze data, and use formulas and functions effectively Sage 100 Contractor experience preferred Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies Proven ability to lead and develop accounting staff Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills Ability to work effectively with both operations and leadership Ability to work onsite in Euless, TX required Pay range and compensation package Pennington Concrete Construction offers: PTO Health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) If you're an experienced construction accounting professional looking for an opportunity to take ownership of the accounting function while joining a family-owned company with a warm, team-oriented culture, we'd love to hear from you.
