Controller Agave LD, LLC Georgetown, TX Job Details Full-time $120,000 - $140,000 a year 6 hours ago Benefits Paid holidays Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Qualifications Spreadsheets Invoice payment processing Bachelor's degree QuickBooks Construction experience Accounting Full Job Description Agave LD is looking for an experienced, hands-on Controller to bring our day-to-day accounting function in-house and help us build our internal finance department. We are a growing landscape company with multiple divisions: Residential Maintenance, Commercial Maintenance, Landscape Construction, Irrigation, Tree Care, and Chemical/Turf Care. The #1 goal of this position is to make sure we understand our numbers and can trust them — both company-wide and by division. We currently outsource our accounting. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of our books internally, improve our processes, and give ownership a clear and current financial picture of the company. This is a hands-on Controller position. We are not looking for someone who only reviews reports prepared by others. You should be comfortable working directly in QuickBooks, reconciling accounts, reviewing transactions, correcting issues, and making sure revenue and expenses are recorded where they belong. What You'll Own Maintain and take ownership of the company's books in QuickBooks Keep financial information accurate and current Make sure revenue and expenses are properly categorized by division Maintain and improve the chart of accounts Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and balance sheet accounts Manage company credit card transactions and expense reporting Oversee accounts payable and vendor credit accounts Review accounts receivable and work with our collections team Own the month-end and year-end close process Prepare and review P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and division-level financial reports Maintain accurate job costing Make sure financial information between Aspire and QuickBooks is accurate and reconciled Support sales tax reporting and filings Coordinate with our outside accounting firm, CPA, auditors, banks, and other financial partners Support audits and provide accurate financial documentation Build stronger accounting processes and internal controls as we bring accounting in-house Identify accounting issues, research what happened, and get them corrected Give ownership a clear understanding of where the company stands financially What We're Looking For We care more about what you have actually been responsible for than the exact title you've held. You may currently be a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar accounting professional who is ready to take ownership of the accounting function.
The right person will have:
5+ years of progressive accounting experience Strong, hands-on QuickBooks experience Experience owning or playing a major role in month-end close Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and reconciliations Experience with AP, AR, credit cards, vendor accounts, and expense management Experience with job costing, departmental accounting, or multiple business units Strong Excel skills Ability to work independently, find problems, and follow them through until they are corrected Ability to explain financial information clearly to ownership and operational managers Industry Experience Experience in construction, landscaping, contracting, or another job-cost-driven business is strongly preferred. We want someone who understands that it's not enough for an expense to simply be entered into QuickBooks. It needs to be recorded correctly so we know which division and, when applicable, which job actually incurred the cost. Experience with Aspire is a plus, but not required. Experience with another construction, field-service, or ERP system is also valuable. A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred. CPA is a plus, but not required. What Success Looks Like We should be able to clearly understand the financial performance of: Residential Maintenance Commercial Maintenance Landscape Construction Irrigation Tree Care Chemical / Turf Care That means clean books, reconciled accounts, properly categorized expenses, accurate job costing, and financial reports we can trust. We don't want to wait until the end of a quarter to understand how the company performed. The books need to stay current so ownership has a clear view of the business throughout the month.
