Job Description

A well-established, privately held construction organization is hiring a Controller to support their current and continued growth. This is a hands-on role for an accounting professional who enjoys owning the day-to-day, improving processes, and bringing structure to a fast-moving environment and has the desire to have a built in career path to CFO. The company needs a strong accounting leader with high detail orientation who can successfully manage financial workflows across development, construction, and property management entities. This role requires strong Excel skills and the ability to coordinate complex financial reporting, payroll, and project job costing. Why This Role Stands Out Joining the business at the right moment: established, growing, and now focused on internal improvements Real influence and visibility in a small entrepreneurial team Strong partnership with an engaged CFO; first hand grooming to take over upon retirement People-first culture with a focus on development and long-term careers Energetic leadership team and highly collaborative environment A place where people create a legacy, not just pad a résumé Responsibilities Financial Operations & Reporting Oversee accounting records across multiple entities within an integrated financial system Recognize and record revenue streams tied to development, construction, and management activities Produce monthly financial reporting packages along with forward-looking cash forecasts Perform account reconciliations and maintain accurate general ledger activity Monitor capital activity, including investor contributions, distributions, and financial modeling support Payroll & People Operations Support Administer payroll processing and ensure accurate allocation of compensation across projects/entities Handle payroll tax submissions and required federal/state filings Support benefits tracking and cost allocation across affiliated entities Ensure compliance with all routine payroll reporting requirements Project Accounting & Capital Management Maintain visibility into project-level financial activity, including commitments, invoices, and cost tracking Assist in preparation of draw packages and coordination with lending partners Manage payment workflows, including electronic and manual disbursements Track project-related receivables and reimbursable expenditures Property & Operational Accounting Record operating activity across a portfolio of assets Manage accruals, prepaids, and internal fee calculations on a recurring basis Partner with both internal teams and external operators to ensure accurate financial reporting Systems & Administrative Oversight Oversee electronic payment platforms and banking activity Support internal systems administration in partnership with IT Coordinate insurance, compliance, and other corporate administrative requirements Assist with investor communications and reporting through internal platforms Requirements
  • Experience in real estate accounting or construction finance with job costing or project based accounting
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with construction accounting systems such as Procore ERP integration and OneSite, strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with payroll processing and tax filings
  • Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple entities and complex workflows, i.e. intercompany accounting skills
