The Samaritan Inn was founded in 1984 as a 10-bed single men's homeless shelter. Since then, it has grown to become one of the largest shelters for our unhoused neighbors in North Texas. We serve single men, women, and families, with the capacity to serve up to 226 residents. We ensure housing stability through prevention, access, and comprehensive support, affirming dignity, strengthening independence, and cultivating a community rooted in care. Summary of theJob:
As a key member of the Development Team, the VP of Development will be a consistent, focused leader responsible for managing their team and overseeing the organization's fundraising efforts with foundations, giving circles, and grants. This position requires a visionary leader who can cultivate strong relationships with donors, grant-making bodies, and stakeholders, while also leading a high-performing team of grant-writing professionals. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in fundraising strategy, grant writing, and donor cultivation, combined with strong management skills to guide and inspire a diverse team.Essential Functions:
Leadership & Management:
Mentor and provide guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional growth Foster a collaborative and inclusive grant team culture that encourages creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement Set clear goals and performance metrics for each team member, ensuring alignment with organizational fundraising objectives and the strategic plan Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to enhance individual and team performanceFundraising Strategy & Execution:
Create and execute giving circle/s that align with the wealth management CRM tool, working closely with the Development Manager Build and maintain relationships with high-net-worth donors, foundations, and corporate partners, working to increase financial support for the organization's mission Identify new fundraising opportunities and expand the donor base through targeted outreach based upon wealth management screening and generations identified Ensure the fundraising plan integrates with the organization's overall strategic goals and missionGrant Development & Management:
Oversee the grant development process, including identifying potential funding sources, writing compelling proposals, and managing relationships with grantors Monitor and report on grant outcomes to ensure compliance with funder requirements and maximize future funding opportunities Collaborate with the programs team to understand funding needs and align grant proposals with program objectivesFinancial Oversight & Reporting:
Work with the business office and Chief Development Officer to set annual fundraising budgets and ensure fundraising initiatives are executed within budget constraints Monitor revenue and expenses associated with fundraising efforts, providing regular reports to the Chief Development Officer Use data and analytics from CRM to assess the effectiveness of fundraising activities and adjust strategies as neededRequired Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in nonprofit management, business, or related field preferred Minimum of 10 years of experience in nonprofit development, with at least 3 years in leadership in the DFW area Proven track record of successfully leading fundraising campaigns and securing major grants Experience in grant writing, grant management, and cultivating long-term relationships with grant-making bodies Experience managing and mentoring teams, with a demonstrated ability to lead diverse groups of individuals to achieve shared goals Core Competencies /Soft Skills:
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess situations, prioritize actions, and make data-driven decisions Expertise in fundraising software, Donor Perfect, and/or Salesforce CRM system Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Knowledge of fundraising best practices, giving circles, trends, and regulatory requirements High level of professionalism and discretion in dealing with confidential informationPersonal Attributes:
