Position Overview We are seeking a Controller who is detail oriented, strategic, and experienced in managing financial operations within a multi-entity environment. In this role, you will oversee all accounting and financial functions, ensure compliance across jurisdictions, and partner with executive leadership to drive financial performance and operational efficiency. As part of HWM's long established and expanding multi state practice, you will manage financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls while supporting growth initiatives and system improvements. This position provides direct exposure to executive decision making, cross functional collaboration, and the financial complexities of a multi-jurisdictional legal practice. More importantly, you'll be joining a firm that values strong financial leadership. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Compliance Oversee month end, quarter end, and year end close processes across all entities (comparison to budget) Prepare consolidated financial statements and management reports (cash flow & 3-way trust reconciliation) Ensure regulatory compliance requirements across all jurisdictions (Financial Bank Audits) Manage team members of AP, AR including expense control management (vendors and PPE) Maintain and improve the chart of accounts, accounting policies, and procedures Financial Planning & Analysis Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes Develop financial models aligned with firm growth strategy Conduct variance analysis against budget and forecast Develop executive level financial dashboards and KPI reporting Perform scenario modeling to support strategic initiatives and market changes Design cash flow projections, profitability analysis, and capacity planning models Financial Operations Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and revenue recognition Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with a focus on accuracy and timeliness Monitor cash flow, operating requirements, and liquidity Oversee tax filings and coordinate with external tax advisors Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard firm assets Cross-Border & Multi-State Management Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations across entities Coordinate compliance with multi state and, where applicable, international requirements Support tax compliance across jurisdictions, including income tax and sales related filings Handle documentation and compliance requirements for multi entity operations Systems & Process Improvement Optimize accounting systems and implement automation where possible Lead ERP system enhancements or implementations as needed Develop scalable financial processes to support firm growth Build and maintain dashboards and reporting tools for leadership visibility Strategic Partnership Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning Provide financial insights to support business decisions and operational improvements Identify cost optimization opportunities and margin improvements Develop board level and executive reporting on a regular cadence Monitor firm profitability, margins, and cost structure Desired Skills & Qualifications Required Strong knowledge of and financial reporting standards Experience managing accounting operations in a multi entity or multi state environment Proficiency in accounting systems and financial management tools Advanced financial analysis, modeling, and forecasting capabilities Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment Preferred Experience in a law firm, professional services, or multi-jurisdictional organization Familiarity with ERP systems and system integrations Experience with audit management and regulatory compliance CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent certification Benefits 401(k) with employer matching Health, dental, and vision insurance Health Savings Account (HSA) Paid time off Retirement plan Flexible schedule Opportunities for leadership, mentorship, and professional development Schedule Full time Monday-Friday (Sandy, Utah) In Office Standard 8 hour daytime shift Work Location
