  • Full-time Position Summary This is a Direct Hire opportunity on behalf of our client
  • a local commercial construction company.
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations of the company, with a strong focus on job cost accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance specific to commercial construction. This role partners closely with project management and executive leadership to ensure accurate financial information, cost control, and informed decision-making across all projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP Manage the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections Provide financial analysis and variance reporting to executive leadership Construction Accounting & Job Costing Maintain and oversee job cost accounting systems, including cost codes, work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, and percentage-of-completion reporting Review project budgets, contracts, change orders, billings, and retainage Partner with project managers to analyze job performance, margins, and cost overruns Ensure accurate revenue recognition and cost allocation by project Compliance, Controls & Audits Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations Coordinate annual audits, reviews, and tax preparation with external auditors and CPAs Oversee lien waivers, insurance certificates, and bonding financial requirements Leadership & Collaboration Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team Collaborate with project managers, operations, and executive leadership to support business objectives Support strategic initiatives such as growth planning, acquisitions, or system upgrades Qualifications Required 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in commercial construction Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, and WIP reporting Proficiency with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300/100, Viewpoint, Procore Financials, CMiC) Advanced Excel skills Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience Performance-based bonus eligibility Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off
