We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function for a growing construction business in Mercer Island, Washington. This position is ideal for a practical financial leader who can strengthen processes, guide a small team, and deliver accurate reporting in a fast-paced project environment. The role works closely with executive leadership to improve financial visibility, maintain compliance, and support sound business decisions as the organization continues to expand.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the complete accounting cycle, including monthly and annual close activities, ledger oversight, and preparation of financial statements.
- Maintain reliable financial reporting across Acumatica and ensure data remains consistent with connected project and operational platforms such as Procore and Brick.
- Establish, document, and refine accounting procedures and internal controls to support accuracy, consistency, and audit preparedness.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff responsible for subcontractor invoicing, accounts payable, payroll processing, and related transactional work.
- Oversee job cost tracking, contract-based accounting, and revenue recognition for commercial construction engagements.
- Administer tax compliance activities across multiple states, including Washington, California, and Arizona.
- Manage payroll accounting requirements, including union payroll obligations in Washington and California.
- Produce timely management reports and financial analysis using Acumatica and Microsoft Excel to support leadership decision-making.
- Monitor financial activity for irregularities, resolve issues promptly, and implement corrective measures that reduce operational risk.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and ongoing improvements to accounting operations.
The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $175,00.
