Job Description

Cowles Company seeks an Assistant Controller to support financial operations for its real estate portfolio within a diversified, family-owned holding company. Based in Spokane, this role manages property-level accounting, consolidations, and reporting across entities in alignment with GAAP. Responsibilities include month-end close, budgeting and forecasting support, audit preparation, and cash flow analysis. You'll partner with real estate, operations, and leadership teams to deliver accurate, timely insights while helping enhance processes. Responsibilities Support month-end and year-end close for Cowles Company's real estate entities, including journal entries and reconciliations Assist with consolidation, budgeting, and forecasting for a diversified real estate portfolio Prepare and analyze property-level financial statements, variance reports, and cash flow analyses Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies Coordinate with property managers, asset management, and external partners on billing, CAM reconciliations, and lease accounting Support annual audits, tax preparation, and documentation requests Help improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting tools for the real estate group Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to senior finance and real estate leadership Required Skills Real estate accounting GAAP accounting General ledger management Financial reporting Budgeting and forecasting Consolidations Property/lease accounting (including CAM reconciliations) Financial analysis and variance analysis Audit preparation and support Advanced Excel and financial systems (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or similar)
