Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead and strengthen the accounting function for a rapidly expanding transportation business in Tacoma, Washington. This position is ideal for a hands-on finance leader who can bring structure to a fast-moving environment, improve financial visibility, and support continued growth. The role offers the opportunity to shape core processes, partner closely with leadership, and build a scalable foundation for the company's next stage.
Responsibilities:
  • Direct daily accounting operations across areas such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activity to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of complete financial statements.
  • Design and implement practical accounting procedures, internal controls, and reporting workflows that support a growing transportation organization.
  • Develop financial analysis, budgets, forecasts, and performance reporting to help leadership make informed business decisions.
  • Improve the use of existing tools, including QuickBooks and Excel, while identifying opportunities to reduce manual and paper-based processes.
  • Partner with administrative and operational teams to clarify responsibilities, strengthen accountability, and increase efficiency across finance-related activities.
  • Prepare consolidated financial information and present clear insights on revenue trends, costs, and overall business performance.
  • Support the evaluation and rollout of improved financial systems and standardized processes as the company continues to scale.
  • Contribute as a strategic finance leader while remaining actively involved in day-to-day accounting execution and problem solving.
The salary range for this position is $125k to $175k. Benefits available with this position include medical, dental and vision; life and disability insurances; participation in the company's 401(k) plan with a match and 15 days of paid vacation, 5days of paid sick leave and 9 paid holidays per calendar year.
