Job Description
- Multi-state commercial insurance carrier is seeking an Underwriting Assistant for the Passenger Transportation Division based in their Long Beach, NY location.
Key Accountabilities/Deliverables:
- Provide Support to Underwriters in determining acceptability, quality and profitability of new and existing business based upon company underwriting guidelines and objectives.
- Prepare various underwriting exhibits necessary for underwriter/management review
- Assist developing insurance proposals, approve endorsements, process binds, cancellations, non-renewals and obtain required underwriting approvals where needed.
- Develop account summaries by analyzing and aggregating loss runs, MVR's and external websites such as FMSCA as well as any other pertinent information
- Develop appropriate rate sheets (in our rating system), as needed/directed by the Underwriter.
- Prepare and complete pre-policy documentation for policy issuance including signed applications, State UM/PIP Selection forms based upon various state requirements along with binder subjectivities to ensure completeness of the file.
- Review policies and documents for accuracy
- Perform related duties as required or as requested to include: report preparation, presentations, and special projects
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with other members of the team to broaden knowledge of the product line and/or technical knowledge of pricing.
Technical Knowledge and Understanding:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including
Word, Excel, Outlook Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or 2+ years of related transportation underwriting experience and/or training preferred. Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, marketing skills and superior customer service
- Detail oriented with the ability to work in a team environment and be flexible as respects daily changing needs and job duties
- 3+ years' experience in Auto Liability insurance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

- Good computer skills
- Good organization and effective time management
- Detail oriented, organized, and able to handle multiple projects and tasks in a rapidly changing environment.
