Job Description

About the Company Higher Education Servicing Corporation (HESC) is a private, non-profit student loan originator and servicing company as well as technology solutions provider for lenders and loan servicing organizations. Job Summary The Financial Staff Accountant will play a key role in accounting operations related to student loan portfolios and servicing activities. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting and supporting audits and financial analysis. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, experience with loan accounting and the ability to work in a regulated financial environment. The role will report directly to the Director of Accounting.
Please note:
All employees must be able to work onsite at our Arlington, TX headquarters. This is not a remote or hybrid position. Additionally, we do not offer relocation services. Responsibilities Preparation of financial statements for HESC and NTHEA. Maintain schedules for HESC. Items include preparation of amortization for depreciable items, interest accruals, investment activity, application of monthly pre-paid items, accounts receivable due to student loan purchases, sales and recourses. Preparation and entry of general ledger items and review entries prepared by Accounting staff. Preparation of cash reconciliation items for input into Accounting software. Review balance sheet and income statement accounts for accuracy Assist with month-end and year-end close processes Reconcile and prepare entries for student loan bank accounts. Reconcile and prepare entries related to the Green Oaks Building Research student loan activity and financial items as necessary Support the department with various day-to-day functions as needed. Improve and document accounting processes and internal controls Other duties as assigned. Required Skills 3+ years' experience in an Accounting atmosphere Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word). Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Preferred Skills Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Detail oriented, strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Ability to work independently or collaboratively while demonstrating a cooperative attitude. Exhibits professionalism towards clients, business partners, and vendors. Flexible attitude to adapt to a wide variety of situations. Ability to diagnose issues quickly and provide solutions with foresight to curb additional problems. Physical Requirements Work is performed in a standard office environment and requires regular, reliable, and punctual attendance. Employee is frequently required to use close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). Employee is frequently required to handle objects, tools, or controls. Employee is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms. Employee may be required to stand, walk, stoop, or lift objects up to 20 pounds.
