Job Description

The Woodshop Craftsman is responsible for fabricating, restoring, repairing, and reproducing custom wood components for historical restoration and construction projects. This role requires a high level of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and knowledge of traditional woodworking methods and materials used in historic structures. The ideal candidate is passionate about fine craftsmanship and preservation work, with the ability to recreate historical architectural elements while maintaining the character and integrity of original designs. Key Responsibilities Custom Woodworking & Fabrication
  • Build, repair, and restore custom wood components for historic restoration projects.
  • Fabricate doors, windows, moldings, trim, cabinetry, paneling, stair components, and architectural millwork.
  • Reproduce historical wood details and profiles using existing samples, drawings, or specifications.
  • Operate woodworking machinery and hand tools safely and efficiently. Historical Restoration Work
  • Restore and preserve original wood elements whenever possible.
  • Match existing wood species, finishes, joinery methods, and historical detailing.
  • Assist with salvaging and repairing historical architectural features.
  • Maintain accuracy and authenticity in all restoration work. Shop Operations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe woodshop environment.
  • Assist with material selection, inventory, and storage.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and care of shop equipment and tools.
  • Coordinate fabrication schedules to support field installation timelines. Collaboration & Project Support
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Foremen, carpenters, and restoration teams.
  • Interpret shop drawings, blueprints, templates, and specifications.
  • Participate in problem-solving for custom fabrication and restoration challenges.
  • Support installation teams as needed on project sites. Quality Control
  • Ensure all finished products meet company quality standards and project requirements.
  • Inspect completed work for precision, craftsmanship, and historical accuracy.
  • Maintain consistency in fabrication methods and finishes. Safety & Compliance
  • Follow OSHA standards and company safety policies.
  • Use proper PPE and safe woodworking practices.
  • Maintain awareness of hazards associated with woodworking equipment and materials. Qualifications
  • 3+ years of woodworking, millwork, cabinetry, or finish carpentry experience.
  • Experience in historical restoration or architectural millwork preferred.
  • Strong understanding of woodworking tools, machinery, and fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license preferred. Preferred Skills
  • Experience reproducing historical trim, moldings, windows, and doors.
  • Knowledge of traditional joinery and restoration methods.
  • Experience with wood finishing and staining techniques.
  • Ability to create templates, jigs, and custom profiles.
  • Familiarity with handtools
  • Understanding of wood species and historical building materials. Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods in a shop environment.
  • Comfortable operating woodworking machinery and hand tools.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, and perform repetitive tasks safely.
Pay:
From $25.00 per hour
