Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Low Voltage Fire Alarm Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing fire alarm systems that operate on low voltage electrical circuits. Your expertise will ensure that fire detection and alarm systems are fully functional, compliant with safety standards, and tailored to meet the unique needs of each project. Security system work is also available to repair keypads, motion detectors and other peripheral devices. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at multiple job sites in the Charlotte, NC area performing field service tasks, and contribute to life safety through precise system design and installation. Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and system design documents to accurately install fire alarm systems. Install, test, troubleshoot, and repair low voltage fire alarm systems including sensors, control panels, and notification devices. Conduct fire alarm inspections to ensure compliance with NFPA72 (National Fire Code) standards, local fire safety regulations and/or customers contracts. Use hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently during installation and maintenance activities. Perform system testing to verify proper operation of fire alarm components and sensors; document findings thoroughly. Sometimes collaborate with construction teams, electricians, fire sprinkler fitters, and other trades to coordinate system integration efforts. Provide excellent field service support by diagnosing issues quickly and implementing effective solutions. Maintain detailed records of system configurations, inspections, repairs, and upgrades for compliance purposes. Assist in fire alarm sales processes by advising clients on system capabilities and upgrades when necessary. Travel to job sites within a 2 hour radius of Charlotte, NC Requirements Must become registered with the NCDPS if (and only if) any security alarm work is performed which will require about 2 hours of continuing education classes per year. Must be able to respond to emergency calls, if required. Proven experience as a fire alarm service technician or in a similar low voltage electrical role within construction or service environments. Ability to read blueprints / CAD drawings. Familiarity with NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm Code. Past experience in annual fire alarm / smoke detector testing is a plus. Ability to read technical schematics and wiring diagrams accurately. Hands-on experience with sensors, control panels, power supplies, and alarm notification devices. Proficiency in using hand tools (must have own), power tools (provided), and electrical testing equipment safely. Excellent understanding of electrical systems including low voltage wiring practices. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and clients during installation or service calls. Construction inspection experience is preferred to ensure adherence to safety codes and project specifications. Experience in service technician roles involving ground faults is very advantageous.
