Job Description
JOB The City of Valdez Fire Department is seeking a motivated, driven, and team-oriented person to serve in the role of Firefighter/EMT. This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefited position that works a Kelly Shift schedule. Under close supervision of the Fire Company Officer, the Firefighter/EMT performs firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical duties as required to control emergency incidents. Maintains Fire Department facilities, equipment, and supplies; cleans, repairs, and returns equipment to service after use.
Assists in the maintenance of required departmental and emergency response records.
Performs preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
Assists with emergency medical and fire training for volunteer emergency responders. Periodically coordinate single resource activities on the emergency scene and during training.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Firefighting and emergency services techniques and procedures, and related safety issues.
Basic knowledge of local, state, and national industrial standards and practices.
Skill in: The safe operation of fire and emergency vehicles and equipment.
Performing firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical duties.
Performing maintenance and repair of firefighting vehicles, facilities, and equipment.
Leading and directing small groups during emergency operations.

Certified Work is performed in internal and external environments with exposure to inclement weather and varying temperatures. May be exposed to hazardous materials, dangerous machinery and potential physical harm when responding to fire and rescue emergencies. Responds to emergencies and performs fire suppression, rescue, hazmat, and emergency medical duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of:
