Job Description:
Second Helpings Fleet + Logistics Coordinator The Fleet Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that Second Helpings' fleet operates safely, reliably, and cost-effectively, while also supporting route planning and continuous improvement of operational efficiency. This role uses data and operational insight to optimize routes, improve resource utilization, and support the effective distribution of food across service areas.
Required:
Must reside in Beaufort or Jasper County and be comfortable working in a flexible, fast-paced environment. Position primarily requires daytime hours, with occasional evenings and weekends based on operational needs. About Second Helpings www.secondhelpingslc.org Second Helpings is a nonprofit food rescue organization dedicated to reducing food waste and food insecurity across Beaufort, Jasper, and Hampton counties by rescuing surplus food and redistributing it free of charge to local nonprofit and community partners serving neighbors in need.
Responsibilities:
Fleet Maintenance & Performance
  • Manage a preventative maintenance schedule for all vehicles
  • Coordinate and track maintenance and repairs with external vendors
  • Monitor fleet condition and address mechanical issues in a timely manner
  • Perform minor repairs and troubleshoot basic mechanical issues as appropriate
  • Ensure vehicles are clean, organized, and operationally ready for daily routes
  • Track mileage, maintenance, and repair costs; maintain accurate fleet records Fleet Operations & Support
  • Coordinate truck availability and readiness across service areas
  • Lead route planning and adjustments to improve efficiency, coverage, and resource utilization
  • Analyze route data, mileage, and distribution patterns to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Partner with the Executive Director and Area Coordinators to align routes with agency needs and operational priorities
  • Utilize Truck Committee to reposition vehicles as needed to support route coverage and minimize disruption
  • Provide backup driver support as needed Vendor & Partner Coordination
  • Maintain relationships with repair facilities and service providers
  • Evaluate vendor performance and identify new service partners as needed
  • Coordinate maintenance scheduling to minimize operational disruption Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with applicable DOT and safety regulations
  • Monitor vehicle safety and escalate concerns to the Director of Operations
  • Support incident and accident response, including documentation and follow-up
  • Promote safe driving and handling practices among staff and volunteers Equipment & Inventory Management
  • Manage fleet-related equipment and supplies, including ordering and inventory tracking
  • Support evaluation and replacement planning for vehicles and equipment Data & Performance Management
  • Analyze operational data to support route optimization and cost efficiency
  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve routing, fleet usage, and overall operational performance Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to ensure fleet performance supports organizational goals
  • Collaborate with Area Coordinators to align fleet availability with route needs
  • Partner with the Truck Committee to support maintenance transports and operational support Qualifications Experience in fleet management, logistics, or vehicle maintenance preferred Working knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting Ability to analyze data and apply insights to improve operational efficiency and route planning Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on logistics and continuous improvement Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment Strong communication skills and ability to work with staff, volunteers, and vendors Experience with data tracking and reporting tools (spreadsheets, fleet systems, etc.
) preferred Physical Requirements Ability to get in and out of a 16' box truck regularly Ability to safely operate a 16' box truck Ability to lift 30-50 pounds consistently Ability to work in outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions
Pay:
$45,000.00 per year
