Job Description

Brunswick County Code Administration is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Floodplain Administrator to join our dedicated team and support our community's floodplain management efforts. This role involves intermediate-level technical and administrative work reviewing development applications for compliance with established floodplain regulations. The ideal candidate will maintain a strong working understanding of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and serve as a key point of contact for floodplain-related inquiries. The Floodplain Administrator reviews applications and related documents to ensure they meet approved floodplain regulations, maintains current knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program, and interacts daily with the public, professionals, and representatives from local, state, and federal agencies regarding floodplain issues. The position also involves preparing, organizing, and maintaining required documentation, while providing high-quality customer service and clear communication to engineers, contractors, municipal officials, and members of the public. Bachelor's degree in planning, engineering, architecture, building technology, construction management, environmental science, emergency management, or a related field with working knowledge of construction practices; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Special Requirements Complete the training in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) with possession of a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certificate within one year of employment. Must obtain Standard Level I certificates in Building, Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing from the NC Office of State Fire Marshal within three years of employment. Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License required. Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects typically, involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds). Position is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, and hazards.
