Role Overview As a Fluids Ground Support Equipment (FGSE) Design Engineer, you will leverage your expertise to help develop the next generation of launch sites, test stands, and production equipment. You will work in small, collaborative groups on fluid system design, installation, maintenance, and operation across various facilities. This work includes preliminary and detailed design, installation, startup support, system baselining, performance analysis, and recommending upgrades. Key Responsibilities Design ground fluid systems, including developing P&IDs, performing tube and pipe sizing calculations, and selecting components. Manage the fabrication, installation, checkout, and operation of these systems. Coordinate and plan fabrication and construction with the GSE technician team by providing drawings, generating work instructions, and scheduling work. Provide on-the-ground support and direction to build teams. Maintain a high level of understanding of relevant engineering codes and piping standards, includingASME B31.1, ASME
B31.3, ANSI, API, and applicable NFPA standards. Participate in and lead internal and external design reviews. Perform activation testing of systems, including writing detailed procedures with a focus on safety. Maintain and upgrade fluid systems, including creating preventative maintenance plans. Troubleshoot fluid systems for non-conformances. Travel to test and launch sites as required to support company objectives (approximately 30%).Required Qualifications Education:
A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related engineering discipline is required.Experience:
5+ years of recent professional experience with fluid systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics systems in a design, assembly, test, or operations capacity. Direct experience with the design and build of ground systems (GSE) or related fluid systems is necessary. Experience in an aerospace, R D, or oil & gas environment is also required. Cryogenic system design or operational experience is necessary.Skills:
A strong understanding of first-principles in fluids, heat transfer, and thermodynamics is required. Candidates must be capable of balancing detailed design tasks with project management tasks, including budgeting and scheduling. The ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment is essential. Preferred Qualifications 7+ years of recent professional experience with fluid systems, pneumatics, hydraulics systems. Experience or familiarity with building or operating distributed control systems (e.g., instrumentation, data acquisition, DCS, SCADA). Strong 3D CAD experience, preferably in Siemens NX/Teamcenter. Experience developing test and operational procedures. Familiarity with ASME, NASA, and SSCMAN standards related to fluid system design. Hands-on experience building, troubleshooting, and operating complex fluid or mechanical systems. This employer is an equal opportunity employer.
