240 Days (or district-specific) Job Summary The Agriculture Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive agricultural education program that includes classroom instruction, laboratory/shop experiences, and student leadership development through FFA. The teacher will prepare students for careers and postsecondary opportunities in agriculture, while maintaining a safe, engaging, and industry-relevant learning environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Develop and deliver standards-aligned instruction based on the Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) frameworks for Agricultural Science. Teach courses such as Agricultural Science, Animal Science, Plant Science, Agricultural Mechanics, Environmental Science, and related electives. Integrate academic and technical content, including literacy, math, and science skills, into agricultural instruction. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs. Laboratory & Shop Management Plan and supervise hands-on learning experiences in agricultural mechanics labs and shop environments. Maintain an organized, clean, and fully operational shop and lab space. Inventory, maintain, and request supplies, tools, and equipment as needed. FFA & Student Leadership Serve as advisor for the local FFA chapter. Prepare students for FFA competitions, leadership events, and community service activities. Supervise student participation in FFA events, including travel as required. Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Guide students in developing and maintaining SAE projects. Conduct regular site visits (as required) to evaluate student progress. Maintain accurate records of SAE participation and outcomes. Program Management & Community Engagement Build partnerships with local agricultural businesses, industry leaders, and community organizations. Promote the agriculture program within the school and community. Participate in advisory committees and program reviews. Compliance & Professional Responsibilities Follow all district policies and state/federal regulations. Maintain required certifications and participate in ongoing professional development. Perform other duties as assigned by administration. Shop & Equipment Safety Responsibilities (Critical Component) Develop, teach, and enforce strict safety protocols for all shop and lab activities. Provide explicit safety instruction prior to student use of any tool or equipment. Require and monitor the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, welding helmets, ear protection, etc. Inspect all tools and equipment regularly to ensure safe working condition. Immediately remove or tag out defective equipment. Maintain clear safety signage, emergency procedures, and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS). Ensure proper storage and handling of hazardous materials. Maintain student safety contracts and documentation of safety training. Supervise students at all times during shop activities—no unsupervised equipment use. Report all accidents and safety concerns promptly and follow district protocols. Qualifications Valid Arkansas Teaching License with Agriculture Education (or ability to obtain). Strong knowledge of agricultural systems, mechanics, and industry practices. Ability to manage a classroom and shop environment effectively. Willingness to work extended hours for FFA and student activities. Performance Expectations Instructional Effectiveness Demonstrates consistent delivery of engaging, standards-based instruction. Shows measurable student growth in both academic and technical skills. Effectively integrates hands-on learning with classroom instruction. Student Engagement & Leadership Maintains an active and successful FFA program. Demonstrates high levels of student participation in SAE and leadership activities. Builds positive relationships that support student success. Program Quality Maintains a well-organized, industry-relevant agriculture program. Demonstrates growth and sustainability of the program over time. Engages community stakeholders and advisory groups. Safety Compliance (Non-Negotiable) Maintains a safe, hazard-free shop and lab environment at all times. Demonstrates 100% adherence to safety protocols and PPE requirements. Provides documented safety instruction and training for all students. Proactively identifies and mitigates risks. Has no preventable safety violations due to negligence. Professionalism Communicates effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members. Meets deadlines, maintains accurate records, and fulfills all assigned duties. Participates in professional development and continuously improves practice. Evaluation Criteria Formal observations and evaluations aligned with the Arkansas Teacher Excellence and Support System (TESS). FFA program effectiveness and student participation. SAE implementation and documentation. Shop/lab safety compliance and organization. Student achievement and program growth indicators.Position Type:
