Typical work assignments include:

Providing legal guidance to, and legal represention of, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in mters reling to the activities and functions of CBP the ports of entry (i.e., in the passenger, cargo, airmail, and seaport environments) and between the ports of entry; Performing legal research and applying laws, regulions, decisions, and guidance across the CBP portfolio including customs and admissibility (i.e., forced labor enforcement, collection of customs duties, taxes, and fees), border search (i.e., search of electronic devices), immigrion laws (i.e., admissibility the ports of entry), and nional security and intelligence; Providing ethics guidance and representing CBP in administrive hearings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Merit Systems Protection Board, Federal Labor Relions Authority, administrive law judges, and arbitrors involving mters such as employee discipline, discriminion complaints, collective bargaining agreements, and broker license revocion; Supporting the Department of Justice as agency counsel in civil and criminal actions (i.e., FOIA, tort/Bivens, asset forfeiture, immigrion, penalty collection) brought in federal court by preparing litigion reports, affidavits, and other pleadings, and participing in eDiscovery, motion drafting, witness interviews, and mediion/settlement discussions; and Developing and delivering legal training to CBP managers and employees reling to the activities and functions of CBP (i.e., disclosure of informion, search and seizure, and investigions) and legal issues involving CBP employees (i.e., ethics, reasonable accommodions, whistleblower protections, Hch Act). Recruitment Incentive :

Should recruitment funding be available, CBP may authorized a recruitment incentive (between 10% and 25% of basic pay) for an eligible selectee. A service agreement is required.

Specialized Educion:

Recent law school gradues or torneys with a year or less of licensed practice may be appointed the GS-11 level if they meet the following additional qualificions: rank in the top 1/3 of graduing class; participion on the school's official Law Review; winning a moot court competition; or, membership on a moot court team th represents their law school in inter-law school competition. Recent law school gradues must be admitted to the bar within 14 months of their appointment. Relocion :

Should relocion funding be available, expenses may be offered to the selectee as a lump-sum payment under CBP's Voluntary Relocion Plan test program (VRP) in lieu of any relocion benefits available under the Federal Travel Regulions (FTR), 41 C.F.R., Subtitle F, Chapter 302. New appointees to the Government non-CBP employees are not eligible to participe in the VRP. The amount of the lump-sum payment will vary depending upon whether you rent or own your current residence and whether your residence is a single or multiple-person household. Any relocion expenses incurred th are greer than the VRP lump-sum payment amount your responsibility, and no subsequent claims for relocion expenses granted by CBP. Career Progression:

As a General Attorney, the full performance level is GS-14. General Attorneys are eligible for promotion to the next GS level after serving a minimum of one year their current GS level, and a minimum, have a "Meets Expections" performance ring. Once a General Attorney reaches the full performance level of GS-14 and meets time in grade and performance standards, they may compete for a GS-15 position, such as senior torney or a supervisory torney position.

Trial/Probionary Period:

You may be required to serve a trial/probionary period of 2 years.
