Hardin County, Texas Position Overview The Hardin County Appraisal District is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled GIS Specialist to support the District's mapping operations. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate digital property maps, supporting land record updates, and providing mapping data to staff, taxpayers, and the general public. We are looking for a dependable professional interested in long-term employment with opportunities for growth and advancement. Key Responsibilities Perform digital mapping and maintain GIS-based parcel data hand-drawn maps into digital formats for use in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Update and manage mapping records to accurately reflect historical and current land parcel changes Interpret and map property boundaries using deeds, plats, and survey data Provide mapping support, data analysis, and custom map creation upon request Produce printed maps for taxpayers and the public, including parcel numbers, boundaries, bearings, and distances Communicate effectively with taxpayers and the public in person and via telephone Qualifications & Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required Valid Texas driver's license, proof of auto liability insurance, and reliable transportation Strong computer skills and proficiency with GIS-related tools Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including professional phone etiquette Required Knowledge & Skills Ability to read and interpret legal descriptions, deeds, plat books, and maps Skill in analyzing land descriptions, surveys, aerial imagery, and technical drawings Familiarity and comfort with Coordinate Geometry (COGO) Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data management Ability to interact professionally with the public and internal stakeholders Preferred Qualifications Degree in Spatial Science, GIS, or a related field Prior experience working with GIS mapping systems Why Join Us Stable, long-term career opportunity Potential for advancement within the District Opportunity to play a key role in maintaining accurate land and property records for the community
