Greenhouse Technician

Greenhouse Technician Job Description The Controlled Environments Team is seeking a motivated and responsible Greenhouse Technician to support research operations at our four-acre facility in Johnston, Iowa. In this role, you will contribute to the advancement of agricultural innovation by supporting daily greenhouse functions and research activities in a safe, professional, and compliant environment. Responsibilities Diligently shoot bag in corn pollination rooms daily. Tassel bag and pollinate corn 1-2 times per week. Prepare and sort plant groupings with a high level of attention to detail. Transfer large plants on carts to correct room locations and specific locations within a room. Perform routine greenhouse sanitation tasks like discarding regulated material. Assist with plant care tasks such as cotton pruning. Drive the Tug to move plants throughout the facility. Essential Skills Proficiency in laboratory and plant science techniques. Experience with pollination processes. Good communication skills and a positive attitude. High degree of self-motivation and attention to detail. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in groups. Ability to drive company vehicles such as a Tug. Basic proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to learn internal research software. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in agriculture, horticulture, plant sciences, or a related field preferred. Two or more years of relevant experience preferred. Capability to perform repetitive tasks, stand or sit for extended periods, and lift at least 30 lbs. Comfort working in warm, humid greenhouse conditions with year-round pollen exposure. Work Environment The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with occasional work on 1-2 weekends or holidays every 3 months, compensated with comp days. The work environment includes warm and humid greenhouse conditions, where you will be exposed to pollen year-round. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Johnston, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
