Ground Maintenance Staff - Parks and Recreation

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director of the City of Youngsville and the Facilities Manager, employees will be responsible for the grounds maintenance of the Youngsville Sports Complex. Employee performs all duties as directed by the Recreation Director and Ground Maintenance Supervisor.

Job Overview:

This position is distinguished by the responsibility for the ground maintenance of the City of Youngsville baseball, softball, tennis, soccer fields, and recreation center. Employee may be required to work on weekends and/or holidays. Hours may vary accordingly

Essential Functions:

• Upkeep and maintenance of Youngsville Sports Complex.
• Cleaning, upkeep, maintain, and record keeping of equipment and supplies to be used for maintenance and upkeep of facility.
• Knowledge of processes and equipment involved in the, maintenance, construction, and/or deconstruction of parks, playgrounds, parkways, and athletic fields.
• Prepares athletic fields for games, contest, events, etc.
• Works closely and cooperates with recreation director(s).
• Care and maintenance of the turf, plants, shrubs, trees, and grass on the facility grounds.
• Follows technical, operational and safety training to ensure that staff is (working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.)
• Follows in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment.
• Maintains records and completes required reporting. Notification to parts, supplies, and equipment as needed.
• Have a working knowledge of, line trimming, blowing of concrete surfaces, edging, and mowing practices,.
• Trash pick-up and vacuum all trash throughout facility.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to work with fellow employees
• Knowledge of horticulture, planting, pruning, and maintenance of athletic fields and parks.
• Knowledge of athletic field marking and boundaries.
• Ability to solve practical problems.
• Knowledge of equipment and machinery needed to perform duties.
• Ability to operate equipment, machinery, tools, etc.
• Ability to apply principles of logic, to define problems, collect and analyze data, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to work longer hours as needed
• Ability to lift 50lbs or more
• Physical ability as this is a taxing position
• Routine exposure to extreme heat/cold conditions
