QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required Three to five years of experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related field, including at least one year in a supervisory role (or an equivalent combination of training and experience) Valid state driver's license required Knowledge of grounds care methods, irrigation systems, turf and athletic field maintenance, safety practices, and equipment operation Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple projects; adapt to changing priorities; and work both independently and collaboratively Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to interact professionally with staff, administrators, contractors, and the public Physical ability to perform manual labor, operate heavy equipment, lift up to 100 pounds, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
STATEMENT OF JOB
The Grounds Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and participating in the maintenance, landscaping, and improvement of district school grounds and outdoor facilities. This position ensures a safe, attractive, and functional environment for students, staff, and the community. The role includes supervising grounds personnel, managing daily operations, and ensuring all work is completed in compliance with safety standards, schedules, and district quality expectations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise and direct grounds crews, including assigning work, training staff, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards Plan, coordinate, and participate in grounds maintenance activities such as landscaping, irrigation, turf care, athletic field preparation, fence installation, playground installation, and general site upkeep Conduct routine inspections of district grounds and equipment; identify maintenance needs and implement corrective actions Operate and oversee the safe use of grounds equipment, including tractors, trucks, mowers, backhoes, dump trucks, irrigation systems, and hand and power tools Maintain accurate records and reports, including work orders, schedules, pesticide application logs, and playground inspection reports Collaborate with administrators and staff regarding grounds schedules, field preparation, safety procedures, and project updates Assist with procurement of supplies, materials, and contracted services; review bids for projects as needed Participate in the development and implementation of safety policies and grounds maintenance protocols Perform a wide variety of maintenance tasks, including irrigation repair, turf installation and maintenance, fence installation, parking lot maintenance, asphalt and concrete repair, playground installation and maintenance, and delivery of furniture and equipment Prepare required documentation (e.g., pesticide application records, inspection reports) to ensure compliance and audit readiness Oversee assigned personnel and daily operations, including training and scheduling, to ensure work is completed safely, properly, and efficiently Assist in performance evaluations of custodial services staff through written communication with school administrators Support the development and implementation of preventive maintenance and safety programs Perform other related duties as assigned
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of professional staff personnel.
