Stipend Position Job Summary:
The High School Boys Basketball Coach is responsible for leading and managing the boys basketball program at Soap Lake High School. The coach will foster a competitive, respectful, and inclusive team environment while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal development. Duties include organizing practices, coaching games, ensuring academic and athletic eligibility, and supporting the holistic growth of student-athletes.
Responsibilities:
Plan and lead practices, conditioning, and games in accordance with school and WIAA regulations. Supervise student-athletes at all times during team-related activities. Encourage academic achievement and monitor eligibility requirements. Maintain effective communication with parents, school personnel, and administration. Attend all district-arranged parent meetings. Ensure player safety and promote proper warm-up, conditioning, and injury prevention techniques. Maintain and manage team equipment and uniform inventory. Organize and lead a youth basketball camp to build program interest and excitement. Inspect locker rooms and facilities before and after practices/games for cleanliness and proper care. Responsible for setup and takedown of game-day equipment and gym facilities. Promote respect for equipment and school property; model proper use and care. Assist the athletic director with scheduling, transportation, and logistics for regular season, tournaments, and special events. Lead or participate in fundraising efforts including concessions, ticket sales, scoreboard operations, and other approved methods. Maintain thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Soap Lake School Board and ensure all coaching staff comply. Demonstrate and enforce high standards of conduct, respect, and sportsmanship. Follow all district, league, and WIAA rules and procedures.
Qualifications:
Previous basketball coaching experience preferred. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Thorough knowledge of basketball rules, strategy, and athlete development. Ability to inspire, mentor, and support high school athletes. Must meet WIAA and Soap Lake School District coaching requirements (including valid First Aid/CPR certification, concussion training, etc.). Must pass a background check and receive district approval. This position is not benefit-eligible unless 630 hours is anticipated or reached within the school year.
