SUMMARY:

Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill, injured, and disabled persons in schools, and similar institutions by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Takes and records patients' vital signs. Performs prescribed medical treatment for students as needed. Dress wounds and provides other medical and first aid services as needed. Applies compresses, ice bags, and hot water bottles as needed. Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge. Administers medications if necessary following physicians orders. Collects samples (if needed) such as urine, blood, and sputum, from patients for testing and reports results to appropriate medical personnel. Maintains required state and local records on students and staff. Sterilizes equipment and supplies. Assists students who have special needs with personal hygiene and bowel and bladder needs. Teaches students and staff required medical and health related topics as required by the school's curriculum. Inventories and requisitions supplies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May be responsible for supervising students in the classroom setting. May also be responsible for supervising students during extracurricular activities.
