The Creative Arts Therapist plays an important role in helping adolescents and adults build resilience, strengthen coping skills, and discover new pathways to wellness through expressive and experiential therapies. This position provides therapeutic creative arts and recreational groups within a comprehensive behavioral health setting offering Residential, Partial Hospitalization (PHP), and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) services. Utilizing evidence-based and trauma-informed interventions, the therapist helps clients explore emotions, develop self-awareness, practice healthy coping strategies, and foster hope and recovery. As a valued member of HopeWay's Integrative Therapies team, this role collaborates closely with professionals in music therapy, art therapy, drama therapy, recreation therapy, horticulture, nutrition, and clinical services to support whole-person healing. The therapist also provides specialty programming for evening IOP groups and weekend residential programming. Primary Responsibilities Facilitate engaging experiential and expressive therapy groups for adolescents and adults receiving mental health treatment across Residential, PHP, and IOP levels of care. Create opportunities for clients to apply skills learned through therapeutic approaches such as CBT, DBT, mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and self-compassion. Provide coverage and support for other Integrative Therapies programs as needed. Lead specialty therapeutic programming for evening IOP participants and weekend residential clients. Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that encourages creativity, personal growth, and recovery. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTherapeutic Services Design and facilitate therapeutic group experiences utilizing evidence-based interventions within area of specialty. Adapt activities and interventions to meet the emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and developmental needs of participants. Monitor client engagement, emotional regulation, and behavioral functioning throughout sessions and modify interventions as clinically appropriate. Encourage self-expression, social connection, skill-building, and healthy leisure engagement through creative and experiential modalities. Team Collaboration Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary treatment team members to ensure coordinated and holistic client care. Communicate relevant observations and clinical information that support treatment goals and client progress. Participate in departmental and team meetings as appropriate. Documentation and Compliance Complete timely, accurate, and clinically appropriate documentation within the electronic health record. Maintain professional, ethical, and regulatory standards of practice. Support program operations through flexibility in scheduling and group coverage when needed. Master's degree preferred, depending on specialty and licensure requirements. Experience Two to five years of experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, healthcare, or related therapeutic settings preferred. Experience in psychiatric inpatient, residential treatment, or intensive outpatient settings strongly preferred. Licensure/Certification Current credential or certification in area of specialty, such as: CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) MT-BC (Board Certified Music Therapist) ATR or ATR-P (Registered Art Therapist) RDT (Registered Drama Therapist) R-DMT (Registered Dance/Movement Therapist) Other equivalent specialty credentials
