  • 5pm; some evenings and weekends may be required; work schedule will adjust depending on business needs

This position is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and management of athletic injuries while ensuring compliance with applicable medical, athletic, and institutional standards. The Athletic Head Trainer provides leadership in the development, coordination, and continuous improvement of the sports medicine program, collaborates with coaches, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, and performs a variety of professional and administrative duties essential to the success of the athletic program. This position is committed to fostering student success through exceptional service, innovation, integrity, belonging, and a safe, supportive environment for all student-athletes.   • Evaluates physical condition of student athletes involved in all of the athletic programs offered at the college.
Provides guidance, instruction, and training to student athletes on injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation; minimizes risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies. Works with physicians to implement prescribed physical therapy and rehabilitation programs for injured athletes. Work with coaches and strength and conditioning staff to assists in the development of strength and conditioning programs. 35%
  • Evaluates and provides athletic injury management and practice/game coverage, including the prevention, rehabilitation, evaluation and care of athletic injuries; applies immediate treatment such as bandaging wounds; respiration assistance; and taping, wrapping and padding of extremities to provide physical support.
Reviews treatment plan of student athlete undergoing rehabilitation and oversees and participates in filing student insurance forms and claims for sports related injuries. Maintains and updates a variety or confidential records including medical records, injury reports, treatment logs, and progress reports on student athletes. Attends and oversees home game and practice activities. 20%
  • Ensures students comply with all NJCAA regulations, policies and procedures related to medical clearance for sports participation. Provides or coordinates staff training along with monitoring and overseeing students involved in the student athletic training program. 10%
  • Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives.
Schedules pre-physicals, orders athletic supplies, maintains budget, schedules athletic trainer coverage and performs related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in sports medicine, kinesiology, recreation therapy, sports nutrition, athletic training, exercise science, or health, and four (4) years of athletic training experience. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
Athletic Trainer Certification from the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC) Athletic Trainer licensure from the Arizona Board of Athletic Training CPR/AED certification may be required to be obtained and maintained on an annual basis Possession of a valid State of Arizona Driver's License (Class D) may be required for some assignments Required licenses and certifications must be maintained for the duration of employment within the classification. Licenses and certifications may be subject to renewal and/or require Continuing Education Units (CEUs), training, or other conditions by the State or issuing authority. Desired Qualifications Master's degree or higher in athletic training. 2-3 years of professional experience in athletic training at the collegiate level. Demonstrated experience with injury prevention, maintenance, and rehabilitation. Experienced in inventory management, including ordering, tracking, and organizing supplies and professional equipment as needed. Knowledge in the usage and implementation of electronic medical record keeping systems, such as computerized neurocognitive screening tools, preferably Sportswear, Impact, or comparable systems. One (1) year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two (2) years. Medium Work:

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to a variety of weather conditions, for short or long durations, including rain, wind, dust, cold temperatures and extreme desert heat. Work may include moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, fumes, odors, poor ventilation, gasses, blood or other body fluids); frequent exposure to crowd conditions, distressed persons, persons exhibiting menacing behavior, and loud and intense noise. This position may stand for extended periods of time.
Travel and Work Schedule:
Depending on the season and program schedules, local or out-of-state travel, including overnight stays, is required to perform the essential duties of this position. Some assignments may have oversight of activities that can occur during non-standard work hours, or during/preceding games. The ability to work evening hours, weekends, or otherwise non-standard hours is required to perform the essential duties of this position.
