Position Overview The Quad City Storm is seeking a certified Head Athletic Trainer (ATC) to manage all aspects of sports medicine, injury prevention, and medical care for our hockey operations. The Athletic Trainer serves as the primary medical professional on-site for all team practices, home games, and road trips. This role requires exceptional clinical skills, high adaptability in a fast-paced professional sports environment, and a commitment to player health and performance. Key Responsibilities Injury Prevention, Care & Rehabilitation Provide immediate assessment, triage, acute care, and emergency response for all player injuries during practices, strength sessions, and games. Design, implement, and monitor customized injury prevention, conditioning, and rehabilitation protocols for all active roster players. Conduct daily physical screenings and prep players for on-ice activities (taping, bracing, soft tissue work, therapeutic modalities). Medical Operations & Physician Liaison Function as the primary liaison between players, team physicians, orthopedic specialists, physical therapists, and front office leadership. Coordinate all external medical appointments, imaging (X-rays, MRIs), prescriptions, and emergency care logistics across home and road markets. Manage and enforce return-to-play protocols, concussion management programs, and SPHL medical compliance directives. Administration, Compliance & Budgeting Maintain comprehensive, detailed medical records and injury logs in strict compliance with HIPAA and OSHA standards. Oversee the purchasing, inventory tracking, and budget management for all athletic training room supplies and medical equipment. Ensure the training room, medical facility, and home/visitor bench spaces remain sanitary, safe, and organized. Travel & Team Operations Travel to all away games and road trips, managing portable medical inventory, player treatment setups in visiting facilities, and emergency protocols off-site. Coordinate travel accommodations, hydration setups, and post-game recovery strategies alongside team equipment and coaching staff.

Qualifications & Requirements Education:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or a related healthcare field from an CAATE-accredited program.

Certifications:

NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) in good standing. State Athletic Training Licensure (or eligibility for Illinois state licensure). Current CPR/AED for Healthcare Providers and Advanced First Aid certifications.

Experience:

1-3 years of experience in collegiate or professional contact sports (hockey experience preferred).

Skills:

Strong clinical judgment, crisis management under pressure, and clear communication with coaches, executive management, and external medical professionals.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk for extended periods on cold/ice surfaces, and travel extensively via team bus.
