GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Maintain an effective athletic training program for high school interscholastic athletics, including athletic conditioning, athletic injury prevention and treatment, injury rehabilitation procedures under the direction of, and in consultation with school physician or personal physician (including Concussion Return to Play Protocol).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work in tandem with other staff to oversee the entire sports medicine program for all athletes
  • Establish specific hours on a daily basis when any athlete in need of the trainer's services would be able to receive proper treatment (this shall include school vacation periods)
  • Attend all home athletic contests (if there is more than one contest on any given day attend a varsity contest and be available by phone if needed at other home contests), away varsity football games, and all tournament games
  • Work in tandem with other staff to oversee the training room, training supplies, develop practices and procedures for use of the training room
  • Provide coverage from the beginning of the fall sport season (including pre-season practices) to the conclusion of the spring season (completed when all teams are finished postseason participation)
  • Assess and treat injuries using a wide variety of modalities and supervise doctor prescribed rehabilitation
  • Maintain a record of injuries (including concussions)
  • Work with school nurses to ensure that all athletes have had physicals prior to them being cleared to practice
  • Responsible for maintaining CRLS Athletics Registration for each sport season and for distributing student lists to each sport coach prior to season and throughout the season for purpose of clearing athletes to participate
  • Maintain an inventory of all medical supplies, first aid kits (provided to each team at all levels) and training equipment
  • Coordinate all reports of injuries for insurance purposes
  • Develop a budget in conjunction with Athletic Director for the purchase of supplies and equipment
  • Share professional literature relative to athletic training and player safety with the school's coaching staff
  • Work with the Athletic Director on a daily basis to ensure coordination of events
  • Attend all parent/athlete/coach meetings to discuss the role of the athletic trainer
  • Perform other such duties in his/her area of responsibility as needed
  • Serve as a resource person for the coaching staff for the planning of conditioning and nutritional programs
  • Keep abreast of current trends and training techniques by attending professional development workshops and courses conditional to maintaining state licensure
  • Compile end of year data and complete Dept. of Health (DPH) report
  • Assist AD in scheduling annual calibration of all therapy equipment in the training room
SKILL SET
As the incoming Athletic Trainer you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
  • Bachelors and Master's degree (preferred) in related field
  • Licensed with the State of Massachusetts (and will maintain license)
  • BOC Certification (and will maintain Certification)
  • CPR/AED Certification (Recertification every 2 years)
  • Concussion Training (Annually will retake training)
  • Ability to administer therapy to rehabilitating injured athletes as prescribed by a
  • medical doctor
  • Possess personal qualities necessary to develop good rapport with professional and non-professional staff members, coaches, school physician, athletes, and parents
  • Possess good communication skills necessary to develop a dialogue with athletes, parents, coaches, school nurses, and physicians
  • Knowledge of CRLS Athletics Registration and Microsoft Office Products (Word and Excel) or Google Tools (Forms and Sheets)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The athletic trainer will work in accordance with a weekly schedule to be approved by the Athletic Director. Weekly schedules will vary according to the athletic season and will include weeknights and weekends as well. The trainer will be expected to report to school when students are dismissed at the end of the school day and remain until the last practice or game is completed when school is in session. During vacation weeks or days the trainer will be expected to arrive to school one hour prior to the game being covered and to stay until at least 1?2 hour before the end of the event

  • Demonstrate the ability to use computers for word processing, data management, information retrieval, video and audio presentations, and communications
  • Contribute to the goals and success of all teams and team members through collaboration, cooperation, and flexibility in team discussions, activities, and decision-making;
  • Maintain high ethical standards, legal responsibility, and confidentiality.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, and running. The job is performed in a generally clean and comfortable environment.
